Is it bad to drink from an aluminum can with dents?
I bought some of those Hansen's smoothies at the grocery store today. In case you aren't familiar with em, they come in aluminum cans just like coke. Trying to carry all my bags from my car to the front door, I dropped the bag with all the smoothies. They've all got some minor dents. I heard when I was younger that this is harmful in some way...what's the deal?
You are probably okay, just don't make a habit out of it. Dent or not, aluminum cans can leak aluminum into the food...a dent probably doesn't make things better. Although elevated aluminum in the body is suspected as a link to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, there is a greater chance that the sugars from the soda will harm you before the aluminum.
If you suspect toxic buildup in your body, look for ways to detoxify the body (intense stretching as in Yoga, eat more whole grain foods, drink more water, get a massage, etc.)
Obviously, if the dent results in exposure, the contents might spoil and you should consider transferring the fluids right away.
